Questions Children Ask

چکیده
Mrs. Chaloner approves the modern manner of answering difficult questions simply and honestly, but warns against perplexing children by giving them more facts than they want, or can use at a particular stage of understanding. Throughout the book she gives examples of the differences in interest and meaning which the same question may have to the two, three, four, and five year old child. The narrative is chronological but there is a subject index ^hich enables the reader to compare the child's concepts of a given subject at the various age levels. The core of the book is a clear and elementary explanation ?f the psycho-social development of the infant and young child,

Learning By Asking: How Children Ask Questions To Achieve Efficient Search
One way to learn about the world is by asking questions. We investigate how children (n= 287, 7to 11-year olds) and young adults (n=160 17to 18-year olds) ask questions to identify the cause of an event. We find a developmental shift in children’s reliance on hypothesis-scanning questions (which test hypotheses directly) versus constraint-seeking questions (which reduce the space of hypotheses)...
متن کاملChildren's questions: a mechanism for cognitive development.
Preschoolers' questions may play an important role in cognitive development. When children encounter a problem with their current knowledge state (a gap in their knowledge, some ambiguity they do not know how to resolve, some inconsistency they have detected), asking a question allows them to get targeted information exactly when they need it. This information is available to them when they are...

We find a developmental shift in children's reliance on hypothesis-scanning questions (which test hypotheses directly) versus constraint-seeking questions (wh...
متن کاملHow Attorneys Question Children About the Dynamics of Sexual Abuse and Disclosure in Criminal Trials.
Little is known about how the dynamics of sexual abuse and disclosure are discussed in criminal court. We examined how attorneys ask child witnesses in sexual abuse cases (N = 72, 6 -16 years of age) about their prior conversations, both with suspects and with disclosure recipients. Prosecutors' questions were more open-ended than defense attorneys, but most questions asked by either attorney w...
متن کاملLittle pitchers use their big ears: preschoolers solve problems by listening to others ask questions.
Children ask questions and learn from the responses they receive; however, little is known about how children learn from listening to others ask questions. Five experiments examined preschoolers' (N = 179) ability to solve simple problems using information gathered from listening to question-and-answer exchanges between 2 parties present in the same room. Overall, the ability to efficiently use...
متن کاملWh-Questions\' Expression in Persian-speaking Children: A Comparison Between Spontaneous and Elicited Probes
